Blogger or WordPress: Who’s The True Winner?

Blogger or WordPress [The Debate Continues...]

There have been always a debate on this matter.

Which is better, Blogger or WordPress.org?

The question is still unanswerable because WordPress blogs are increasing and so as the blogspot blogs.

Both are top platforms and are developing and advancing day by day…

  • WordPress fixes their bugs in every new version and blogger adds new features occasionally. Sometime ago WordPress was updated to version 3.5 and this made their blogs more secure and customizable.
  • Again, Blogger added features like robots.txt, meta description, no-follow and no-index commands etc.. to optimize blogs for search engines.

Development is going on and growth is on its way. It’s not that a blogger can make good revenue with only WordPress, as many are making good money from blogger too..

What I think is…

Success don’t depend on the platform you choose but on what you do.

Your earning depends only on your works, your writing and hard work. Wherever you’re working, work hard with originality and success is for sure.

Still, to get a clear picture of the two platforms I’ll provide the newbies with some points showing the difference between Blogger & WordPress, so that they can select anyone of them.

Points About Blogger.

1. Easy to understand and work with, especially for newbie bloggers.
2. Provides a gadgets/plugins store but you can’t get all what you want without going for a search in sites like bloggerplugins. They have a good collection of plugins for blogger blogs.
3. Provides cool templates as well as awesome dynamic views, but for more templates explore sites like splashytemplates or bloggerthemes.
4. Fast to work even in slow net speed like GPRS and low bandwidth dial-up.
5. Unless you know the other bloggers personally you can’t allow them to blog on yours as Blogger don’t has a guest blogging feature.
6. Blogger requires less investment and less technical knowledge as it doesn’t require any hosting. You don’t need to spent money for hosting, you just need to buy a domain name from sites like GoDaddy and pay a very less amount yearly.
7. If you need to change your blog template in blogger, then all your previously made customizations and hacks/coding with the template ‘ll get removed.
8. Blogger is a secured platform and thus the blogspot blogs are rarely hacked.

Points about WordPress.

1. A little time is needed to get adjust with WordPress.
2. Has a huge plugins store with every need. You just need to search for what you want.
3. Provide a great range of free templates in the templates store but don’t provide dynamic views.
4. WordPress requires a certain net speed to work with. You can’t operate it nicely in slow speed.
5. You can make your blog a guest blog so that other bloggers can come and write on yours.
6. Self hosted WordPress blogs require more investment & technical efforts as they require hosting facilities. So you need to spent money for hosting on sites like HostGator, every month or every year.
7. Your template customizations and coding can be backed up, so that when you switch to a new template you don’t require to work once again on ‘em.
8. WordPress is also a safe platform but the no. of hacking reports are more here. You need to take some security measures to save your blog from hackers.

I’ve not mentioned the threaded comments point as it is available in both the platforms now. I’ve also not mentioned much about SEO because both the platforms work well in Search Engines. It all depends on your link building and keyword research works. And I’ve not talked about Adsense integration as well, that is also easy in both. Blogger has Adsense options in dashboard and in WP you can install plugins like “Easy Adsense Lite” or” Quick Adsense” to do the work easily…

Finally I want to say that, you don’t need to think much about platform because if you’re correct then everything is. Just go on with white-hat techniques, don’t take help from cheap and link-buying programs, work on how to get natural linking (e.g: from guest blogs & article directories) and enjoy your blogging journey..

Hope the post helped you to make a good decision. If you liked my it then do share and comment below about the platform you would select.

  1. Well, i prefer blogger over wp,as blogger is very “human – friendly” and adding widgets or customizing html is way better than wp

  2. Hi Avi,

I have used both Blogger and WordPress. My personal opinion is, WodPress is better than Blogger(Specially if you have some knowledge about PHP)

  4. WP is the best platform as there are huge collection of useful plugins and themes as compared to Blogger. Blogger is good in eyes of Google but if SEO is done properly in your WP blog, you can pass blogger too.
I don’t have much knowledge of PHP but still it is very easy to use.
    I will surely recommend WP.org.
But if you dont want to spend on domain and hosting, Blogger is best over wordpress.org…

  5. Hi Avi, I think every blogger should have at least one of each. I have 2 WordPress blogs and 3 Blogger blogs and I see no reason we should need to pick one over the other. Just blog!!

  8. Your point that they each have some benefits is worth a revisit to blogger.com where I started and then moved over to WordPress. I’ve been considering some personal, as opposed to business, blogging and blogger might be able to fit that need for me.

Thanks for a great review post!

  9. Blogger is good for beginner to understand everything. We don’t need any Hosting plan or domain to start a blogger blogs. WordPress.com is available but we can’t add ads on it. I prefer blogger for all. Now blogger is more advanced that previous version. Blogger has some disadvantages – Theme ,Widgets like WordPress.

WordPress is good for pro bloggers but ordinary bloggers who take it as a side business i prefer only Blogger. No worry about hacking , changing Hosting plans, No over traffic problems..

  10. When I was new to blogging firstly I started a free blog on blogger.com to check my work and time for blogging, I mean to find out if I am proper enough or not with blogging. Then after regular work I noticed the heights reaching with good interval of time. Not much but satisfactory time.

Then I bought the domain and hosting and started with a new point. But now I found that both are equal in their own. I give 51% for WordPress (just because of good templates and plugins) and 49% to Blogger as we have to do manual editing for everything.

  13. For newbies specially, blogger is very easy to get started with. Also blogger blogs get indexed very soon as compared to WordPress. On the otherhand, WP has a lot of plugins. However Nice Post ! Which one u like?

  14. Blogger is good to start a blogging career, but I feel both are good to use.

  15. Wow excellent post bro .I am so happy with my blogspot blog. I don’t why so many professional bloggers suggested me to migrate to wordpress.

  16. Simply “WordPress is WordPress”. No competition of WordPress and blogger. Well I do run my blog on WordPress but that’s not the reason I’m with WordPress.

The reason is basic because Blogger don’t have any plugins or any other pro themes etc but WordPress is full of that and that really helps for newbie bloggers who are not that much good in editing HTML and codings etc.

    So simply I’m with WordPress.

    • Same here, plugins are something that make WordPress stand out, there is almost a plugin available for everything you like to add to your blog.

  17. Meghansilva says:

Im torn between both currently I have a free blog on wordpress.com but im thinking of heading over to blogger, wordpress.com doesnt give you the freedom of paypal buy now and adsense without having to pay, i will surely miss the gorgeous layout though but when you trying to start a business via your blog and not trying to spend loads of cash blogger wins.. in my humble and new to blogging world opinion.

  18. Well i have used blogger. Infact i switched from blogger to wordpress and i am completely satisfied with wordpress.
Wordpress is true winner in sense of ease of use, flexibility, etc.

    My vote goes to wordpress.

  19. Actually there has to be no question like such.
Wordpress wins anyways. More themes more plugins easy to use software base.

  20. I was blogging on free blogspot platform for over two years. One fine morning they deleted my blog for spam, I got it back after a month but lost all my traffic and google author rank, so with blogger platform they control you. Your site and future is not something that you should give to blogger to play around with.

Bro it might be due to some work that you may have done :) Why should they simply delete one’s blog in a fine morning

  21. i think for new user blogger would be more comfortable to use as it is easy and user friendly as compared to word press but after some time they should switch there account to word press as i am also going to this

  22. Toughest question. but for newbies BLOGGER good to startup with to learn some basics and earn a little

Then move to Worpdress and rock !

  23. Manual Joseph says:

I would suggest any Newbies to use or start with Blogger and then when he reach at a height and learn about blogging he can easily switch to use the WordPress !! :)

  24. In fact, I used both the blogger and WordPress. Loved the flexibility of both Blogger and WordPress. Cool Post :)

  25. Hi Avi Jit,
    Really a nice post…!

I personally feel blogger works well for newbies as we need to spend only for the domain. And we need not to worry about the downtime and bandwidth. Apart from that its secured. We can make guest post available using third part contact forms like foxy forms, EMF contact forms. Main part is its instant and their is not much need for customization’s from coding part for newbies. And I feel wordpress works well for techie and it can be used both as a dynamic and static site, in addition to that lot of plugins are available for free. Blogger lack that option of using it as a static site. While using wordpress we have to concerned about downtime, resource limit etc… But blogger is worry free.

  27. I’ve used both blogger and wordpress and what i feel now is that blogger has all the options that wordpress has and its only fair if one wants to use blogger.

  28. If you are a newbie go with blogger but if you want more functionality the you need to try WordPress. For me plugins are something plugins something that really make WordPress stand out.

  29. the winner is yoast the creator of the seo plugin for wordpress, because the man in the picture reminds me totally of him haha.. ^^

  30. Well balanced article Avi…While blogger best suits for those who blog for a hobby while starting self hosted WordPress shows how seriously you took blogging. So there is no point in comparing both blogging platforms.

  31. WP looks so difficult to master at first. How long would you say it takes to get a good feel for it and to be comfortable using it’s features?

  32. Good conclusion when you mentioned that ‘success’ depends on hard work and quality and original content.

Perhaps you should consider defining ‘success’ in your next blog: how does one measure success in blogging? How can you register success? Rankings, traffic, backlinks and so many parameters. Is it when the cheques starts coming in?

I need to know when to consider my blog successful!

    • For that you’ve to keep experimenting and checking your analytics. Is your blog growing? So you rank for your keywords? Are you getting high ranks after each update? Success can’t be measured but can be seen. You will know yourself when you achieve success… :)

  33. Whatever be the cost I will always prefer WordPress because it is more reliable than any other blogger platforms. Blogger stuck with its own limitation however the hosting is free but what if Google ban your blog. So I prefer WordPress always.

  34. I have a WP blog but seriously I love Blogger <3

  35. I am a weeeeee bit biased because I use WordPress every day. I have used Blogger once, and really did not like it very much. I am impressed with people who use Blogger though. My money still rests with WordPress.

  36. I’ve been with Blogger for a while now and frustrated with the limitations of customising my homepage differently to other pages and the general get up. Only problem is it’s already registered with my domain which I LOVE (www,shootingmyjourney.com) and scard if I move to WP I won’t be able to take it with me atleast for another year :( Also could someone please explain PHP? Or point me in the direction of a ebook about it? still very new to all this!

Thanks in advance for any replies x Shooting My Journey x

  37. First of all it is all about personal preferences. Someone feels more comfortable with WordPress while others love only Blogger. It is hard to compare these two platform because even having something in common they are completely different

  38. Excellent comparison between these two popular blogging platforms. Well, both these platforms great to get started, however wordpress have more flexibilities and customizations. Maybe, blogger is a good choice for those who are just getting started with blogging and where as wordpress is for those who has some experience in blogging. But, it all depends on self decision on which to choose. Thanks Avi for sharing this info and tweeted :)

  39. IF you look at the stories of many professional bloggers, we can find that they used Blogspot platform first and then changed to WordPress. From this fact we can conclude this debate :)

  40. Having used Blogger for techgau.org and WordPress from igau.org, I can safely say that WordPress is miles ahead, be it plugins, features etc, WordPress just rocks!
