Google Author Rank: How to Dominate Search Engines and Rank Higher?

A term that’s spreading in the blogosphere now-a-days is Author Ranking.

What’s that actually?

Is it a method of getting authority to your blog?

Is it the thing that shows author’s image in Search Engines?

author ranking I don’t think simply connecting your blog with your Google+ account will give authority to your blog. Yes, it does give more exposure to the author in Search Engines. But, that’s not sufficient. You need to work on your blog so that it gains authority and you get author rank or so called reputation in front of search engines.

What are the things I need to work with to get more author rank?

Search Engine Optimization.

It is one of the best ways to get a higher ranking. It helps in increasing the visibility of any web page and hence increases the page traffic, which leads to the profitability of the business. There are various latest strategies available to carry out the optimization process. All of them are consistent, robust and unique and they collectively help in making the optimization process successful.

Content Optimization.

Good quality content plays a vital role in search engine optimization process. Keyword enriched content implies the density of keyword in the given content, which equally helps in achieving a good page rank. An original and unique content engages the users and helps your webpage in ranking amongst top 10 results of Google. The latest trend in content writing is “infographic search”. It is a combination of content and graph, which is easy to understand. It significantly affects the optimization process.

Mobile Compatibility.

Uses of smart phones has brought this SEO trend in existence. As the name denotes, mobile search is based on mobile platform. It is optimizing a website that supports phones, tablets, and the makes the uses of tools such that it offers complete feature to mobile applications as well. I suggest everyone to use responsive themes because they are mobile and tablet optimized. You can go with StudioPress Themes which run on Genesis Platform. :)

Voice and video search.

These are the latest method used for effective search engine optimization. Voice search follows the same algorithm as text search. One just needs to speak out his/her query to the mobile device and get the search results in fraction of seconds, while video search is an SEO technique that is designed to tag your video content and later display it to the viewer on making a relevant search. Voice and video search is getting highly popular these days because of its ease of use. They are very simple and user friendly.

Social Media Optimization.

Social media optimization is a recent SEO trend that is being used by Search Engines like Google as a big factor to see if users like the content of a site and share it with their connections or not. Almost every blogger has added social sharing buttons on their site so that readers can share their content on social sites, but I also suggest them to spend sometime in engaging with their readers on social sites.

Genuine Link Building.

Getting link for your website is the main and ultimate goal of SEO. There are various ways to get the link on different pages and they are guest blogging, forums and so on. But we should always be aware to link from relevant and quality pages.

Google+ Authorship Markup.

That’s the way to show author’s image on Google. It gives more visbility to the author in SERPS. But how to show your image on Google?

  1. Simply add your Google Plus profile link to your “about me” page on your site. And add “rel=author” at the end of the link. Like this: <a href=”https://plus.google.com/114016150700861928530?rel=author”>Avi</a>.
  2. Show author bio below your posts and put a link to the “about me” page. So now, all the posts on your blog will link to your “about me” page and then to your Google Plus profile.
  3. Now go to your Google Plus profile and add your “about me page link” in the contributor section.

Wait some time for changes to take place. Ad finally you will be able to see your image with your links on Google.

So, Author Rank is the repuatation that an author gains with time from Google by consistently writing quality articles, taking part in social activties and ranking his articles higher on SERPS. And once you gain that reputation and ranking you can easily dominate search engines and kick off your rivals to rank higher on search engines for any keyword. ;)

  1. hey Grace,

I’ve been reading lately quite a few articles on Google author ranking… and you are right that authentic link building is key for 2013 and beyond…

Now, your 3 tips to help us setup our Google plus account and integrate the authorship option would be amazing if you could add some snapshots of how can this be done…

I understand this is second step is not required, but optional?

“Show author bio below your posts and put a link to the “about me” page.”

Do you know of any WP plugins that can help integrate all this and make it easy for us? :)

  2. Yeah, I was also confused about this Author Rank. Thanks for writing detailed article on this topic.

  3. Author ranking is newer concept and appearing in discussion recently. Thanks for starting this topic on your blog.

I wonder what will be the ranking factor of this author ranking. Pages were ranked based on the complex calculation of incoming links their values and outgoing links. How authors will be ranked? Number of articles from same author and number of domains on which they appear? Or is it the number of pages linking to author’s profile or what will be the factor.

As you’ve pointed out the tips, are they not the same good-old-tips about SEO of your blog except adding authorship meta tags?

    • Hey! Thanks for the comment. :)

Basically, the thing is ~ OLD is GOLD. So they are more focused over here. Acc. to me, Many more ranking algorithms may be introduced in future, but still content, quality backlinks, engagment etc.. will play the most important role. They will always be the main factors of ranking.

We don’t need to think, “Oh! what to do now, Google introduced a new ranking algorithm, how to rank higher?”

I think, just concentrating on our good old factors will be better for us.

It’s upto Google on how they will rank an author, but what’s upto us is or what we should really think about is what we do, how we do, with what intention we do and mainly, who likes what we do..

I would love to hear more from you, be back soon. :)

      • Nice article you shared with us. Many bloggers are still confused about “Author Ranking”. They don’t know how and what to do.

Basically Author Ranking is based on “Google+ Authorship Markup”. Create a profile on Google+ use the same name and photo as you’re using for your blog author account. Then create an about me page put your google+ profile link with “rel=author” tag and then add your blog about me page to your Google+ contribution section.

You can add your Google+ profile link at the end of article with rel=author tag as well in author bio section. If you’re a guest blogger on other blogs then make sure to add your Google+ profile link with rel=author tag in your author bio section to get better Author Rank.

        Thank you!

        Regards,
