Best of The Best Image Optimization Tips & Plugins For WordPress

Image Optimization WordPress is the most famous blogging platform in the world and the main reason behind this popularity is the huge store of plugins. Today I’m going to deal with plugins that will help you optimize the images that you upload to your blog.

But first of all there will be some tips and important things to know about Image Optimization.

First question that comes…

Why Image Optimization is Important?

Image optimization is very important as these images plays a major role in blog’s performance and growth.

  • Image optimization improves blog’s loading speed and thus will not make your readers wait for long to read your content.
  • Image optimization will give your images more exposure in the Best Image Search Engines. Thus, you can get more traffic.

How to work with image optimization?

I always hear about “Alt-tag”, is that something to work with?

Oh! you got it right, but that’s not all. image optimization

Then what actually is Image Optimization?

  • Giving the right title to your image is the first thing.
  • Adding the right alt tag is the most important work.
  • Compressing images to right size is also important.
  • Installing good plugins to work with image optimization.

As we are talking about plugins so I want to introduce with some good plugins which will help you to work with image optimization and make your blog more SEO optimized and more efficient.

So here I come up with the best of the best Image Optimization Plugins for WordPress:

1. Imsanity WP Plugin

Imsanity uses WP built-in-image scaling functions and automatically resizes uploaded images to a configured size. The plugin is configurable with size and quality of the image you upload to your blog. Imsanity also provides a bulk resize option to selectively resize previously uploaded images to clear up disk space. If you want the resize feature only then you can also use the “Bulk Smush.it” plugin as it has Yahoo! Image Compressor feature.

2. Advanced Lazy Load

Advanced Lazy Load plugin is used by Avi on SkyHiT BloG and so you see a fast loading speed. This plugin first loads the content only and loads the image only when the image comes in the viewpoint. This plugin doesn’t need any configurations. You just need to install it and forget. It will take care of the rest.

3. PB Responsive Images

The PB Responsive Images automatically reformats the images into a format similar to the picture proposed by the Responsive Images Community Group on w3.org. PB Responsive Images plugin converts the image to a size according to blog reader’s screen resolution. You’ll have to customize the configuration to fit your theme best as the default configuration provides the image sizes for the Twenty Eleven theme.

4. CW Image Optimization

This image optimization plugin automatically reduce the image size and improve performance using Linux image optimization programs without losing the quality. This plugin also optimizes the images that are previously uploaded in the past. This plugin also provides bulk optimization option if you have a lot of images to optimize.

5. Hammy WordPress Plugin

Hammy plugin uses the new WP 3.5 image code to generate resized images and provides most suitable images for your content area depending on content width for a better experience, especially for mobile, tablet devices.

This is not a big list of image optimization plugins, but  is a list with the best plugins for the said job. I didn’t want to make a list of 20-30 plugins because many newbies get confused with which one to use. But yes, if you want us to add your favourite image optimization plugin then just name it below and tell us why you like it.

Over to you…

What do you think about Image Optimization? Which is your favourite image optimization plugin?

Really helpful post but tell me which plugin is better Advanced Lazy Load or CW Image Optimization.

    • Hi! Akhilesh, just want to say that both the plugins have their own benefits. LL speeds up loading of your content by halting image loading, whereas CW reduces image size and speeds up loading.

I am already using W3 Total Cache to optimize the images and make them load faster, can I use any of the above plugins along with W3TC, if yes which will be the best of them.

    • Manual Joseph says:

      Hi @enstine
I don’t have any special consideration for each of these plugins. Each of these is has special purposes which you could see in the description given.

  11. Being a technology evangelist who is in constant look out for new and interesting tech developments I must say this was an interesting article. I’ll certainly try it out myself. Thanks.

  12. Smush.it is obsolete and useless tool. It’s a pity so many webmasters still use and recommend it.
Your logo image logo.png, 36.13 KB
    - compressed with smush.it: 34.84 KB (-3.6%)
    - compressed with compresspng.com: 9.4 KB (-74%)
    No visible difference.

    • Manual Joseph says:

Debil thanks for dropping your review I know that Smush.it is obsolete and thus have not used in the list :)

I am also using the Advanced Lazy Load plugin. It helped me to improve the site speed.

  18. Nice post but I don’t prefer using plugins for everything. Just my opinion!

  19. Great list of plugins but I think they’re all for optimization, while at some point in the early part of the post you mention about alt-tag which is more to SEO optimization. Performance optimizations (like what all the plugins above offer) isn’t the same thing as SEO optimization.

    Just my 2 cents.
