Windows 7 or Windows 8: 4 Very Simple Reasons Why I Prefer Windows 7

Windows 7 or Windows 8 Windows 7 was a great success.

Windows 8 is going to become a big success?

What should you prefer?

Windows 7 or Windows 8?

Since the release of Windows 7, the computing field has changed significantly. In the past, desktops and laptops differed from smart phones and tablets considerably. However, now the lines between these device classes have been blurred.

In response, Microsoft has attempted to create an operating system that bridges this gap with the release of Windows 8. The release of Windows 8 has been met with good reviews and also some poor reviews.

Important: How to use Windows 8? [Tips and Shortcuts]

Today on SkyHiT BloG we will discuss why you should prefer Windows 7 over Windows 8.

Here are a few of the reasons why people should prefer Windows 7 to Windows 8:

- Familiarity

While Windows Vista was unpopular, it came with many new computers. As a result, people became used to the interface. Windows 7 was similar, and the differences between it and Windows Vista were minimal. And so users started liking Windows 7 as well.

Windows 8 however is really different from the predecessors. The interface is completely different, and so not all users are liking it.

This is not a new trend, the case is not only for Windows 7 or Windows 8. Many people were also uncomfortable with Vista because it differed significantly from Windows XP. Here I think, if you’re using XP then you should try and Buy Windows 7 or 8.

- Strange user interface

Windows, Mac and even Linux distributions share a number of user interface similarities. Programs are accessed on the desktop or through a drop-down menu, and programs are organized in a logical manner. On smart phones and tablets, however, this paradigm does not work well, and a number of different paradigms are used.

Windows 8 implements the Metro interface, which breaks from the traditional desktop metaphor. Despite the availability of this interface on Windows Mobiles, many seem unfamiliar with it as iOS and Android users are far more than Windows Mobile users. :(

Windows 7 or Windows 8

- Two user interfaces

Because Metro differ so greatly from the traditional desktop paradigm, many are unwilling to make the change unless Windows 8 proves to be a success.

With the lukewarm reception Windows 8 has received, many development companies have stated that they will not implement a Metro interface unless sales improve in future and Microsoft commits to the Metro interface wholeheartedly.

- Few advantages

Because both Windows 7 or Windows 8 run similar code bases and offer similar features, most programs developed for Windows will continue to support Windows 7. In fact, many still support Windows XP. Coupled with the lack of other advantages, there is little incentive for current users of Windows 7 to make the upgrade. Most of the old version users are only using Windows 8 Customization Pack or some theme of Windows 8 for Win 7.

Upgrading is relatively expensive, and Microsoft has not provided compelling reasons to make the transition. Almost all users of Windows 8 use it simply because it came with their computers.

As users are already liking Windows 7 and paid for it so they don’t want to get into a different interface.

What do you think, should all windows users upgrade themselves to Windows 8?

  1. Yeah, me too personally like Windows 7 rather than Windows 8. I installed Windows 8 on my laptop 1 month ago and seriously what I noticed is that it’s not my laptop. Really. The feel and view is not there like I had in Windows 7.

So, basically I will also prefer Windows 7. It’s good, better and simply best. By the way recently I published a review article for Bitdefender Windows 8 Antivirus Software which is specially designed for Windows 8 and its lovely users. Check it out. Hope you like it. :)

  3. Most people prefer windows 7..I think people are not able to adapt the new grid like structure of windows 8. even stats show that..on november, after one month of launch of Windows 8, it has grabbed only 1.31 percent share of worldwide internet users. While the same figure for Windows 7 was around 3.9 percent in 2009.

    • Agree, WIN xp still share 31% which means this many users still prefer to use XP rather then using WIN 7. People don’t want to adapt to the new interface introduced in WIN 8.

  4. i personally recommend windows 8 and i am using 3 os i.e., windows 7 windows 8 and linx. i recommend windows 8 over windows 7 because we have change with the changing interface. this makes ourself capable to work on each and every condition because at last we have to accept the latest technology.

  5. I think Windows 8 is suitable only for a touch screen device.
I agee with all the above points.
I had installed 8 to check out the stuff and i have reverted back to 7 now.
There is also no Auto-Redial function which every dial-up connection needs.

    • how it is possible that you did not got auto connect option in dial up connection it is there in windows 8 i am using it and it automatically connects me to dial-up connection. Make sure and check your connection properties there you will find your solution.

      • I strongly Agree with you Sagar,Yes it s there as I am also using Windows 8 and I am loving it.

        • No it is not there. you can check out on Google.
If you are away from keyboard and net get disconnects, you need to manually reconnect unlike in windows 7 where you can set a period of time in how much seconds your net should auto-reconnect.

          • sorry my frnd i think till now also you are in very hurry initially when you connect through the auto connect in that dialog box there is button properties in that you will get your answer
and i don’t think it is a valid reason of not using Windows 8 and in Linux also you are not going to find this facility so if your are not using Windows 8 only just for this reason then i will say u not to use Linux also….
and as it is also not like Microsoft windows it total works on command if you remember all command then you can use it otherwise you are going to face a big trouble while using it ………..
think on your decision before taking it

    • Hey Anchit,

I think you have used Windows 8 for some days only, and you are too fast to make your decision please use it for some more days and then make that decision, and I am completely dis-agree with you that windows 8 is just suitable for touchscreen,it is awesome on my PC and my laptop also.Go for the Pro version and then make decision. What you think Avi on this ?

    • @Ankit touch screen devices are the future, even desktop will be designed to support touch screen in near future and i believe that WIN 8 designed like this taking that into account

  6. Thank you all for your comments. The key reason why I’m still sticked to windows 7 is my habbit of usual windows interface and classic look from Windows 95 what we all used to love till now. 70$ it’s such a big price to pay to Gates company to see an icons redesign and a pair of squares dangling. It looks like Microsoft tries to unify mobile tabs and pc’s interfaces at once as Apple before did. I’am looking forward to use linux based systems like Ubuntu. It’s free and stable as i know. No viruses, no fee.

    • i will really appreciate you if your are going for Linux because it provides us the authority to change its interference….
and today almost all IT companies and Tech world related people r using this. the main reason of this that it provides us more security as compared to Microsoft operating system and other operating systems.
but i want to correct you is that it is stable, it is free of cost (open source) but not free from viruses my friend. we have to use anti virus there also yes the thing is it also of free of cost provided by Linux app center….

  7. I was waiting to lay hands on the windows 8 pc but it turns out that it doesn’t make any sense to the majority of people.

  9. Every one has their own choice, i personally don’t like window 7, I have uninstalled window 7 with Sony builtin software. And i am really satisfied with my it. It has some cool features and very easy to start and shut down.

  10. I like Windows 7 because it’s very stable compare to Vista. I don’t really like the Windows 8 interface and I will wait before I invest in Windows 8 until I get a touchscreen to my desktop computer. Unless you have a touchscreen I don’t think Windows 8 is that good.

    • WIN 8 is much fast as compare to WIN and if metro interface is your only problem then you can try third party app to bring back start screen and remove metro interface.

  11. Azeem Asim says:

Windows 8 interface is pretty sleek and nice. The only thing I dislike about it is that they still have that old fashioned desktop with task bar. I would prefer if they devise a method to remove that from the interface. Do something very similar to the tablets and mobile devices.

  12. I hadn’t tried windows 8 till now, i am still using windows 7. But from your points its clearly appearing that windows 7 is better, thats why i am thinking to keep windows 7.

  15. I personally liked new window interface and it’s fast so i will stick to it. For me it is awesome on my PC and my laptop.

  16. Hello Avi,
We already familiar with windows 7 but if we are going to use windows 8 then after some time we will feel better with windows 8 also. I agree with your some points like strange interface, but after using it. It will be easy.
    Thanks for sharing :)

  17. #1 – Didn’t get what author wants to say with “Familiarity” concept. Unless people will use new Windows 8, how they can become familiar…Windows 8 comes with “Tile Metro” interface, that’s a new concept and style, it should be promoted in case. It’s genuine that it’s a bit tricky to hand but that’s the changing nature of technology.

#2 – Some programs support Win XP, so please get Virtual XP from Microsoft site and run your program in that, don’t criticize on that point.

#3 under heading “two user interface” – nothing has been written about that you can log in from two different account , but write is in vague manner criticizing everywhere “Metro” UI. Stick to your point…Get some info on that first before writing.

Rest i don’t understand “why i prefer Win 7″ was written > it should be “Metro UI of Win 8 Criticized”

    • #1: People who are using Windows 7 would not like to go with 8 coz they don’t want. They are already familiar with 7 and not with 8. But if 8 would have been like 7 then people would have liked it.
#2: We know about Virtual XP but people would not like to do some extra work to make apps supportable in 8 as without doing anything they are getting apps run on 7.
#3: Yes, we can switch to both interface but there’s no such option of bringing desktop at startup but the start screen appears. The unfamiliar users don’t like that and so the Metro interface is criticized in the article.

No offense. It depends on users taste. What they loves is what they do. I love windows 8 but the article was about why people love 7 not 8. Thanks for your comment Anurag.

  18. same here i also like the windows 7

windows 7 is much tastier than windows 8 for me……

  19. Interface is annoying, I love windows 7 more than 8..

  20. I haven’t tried Windows 8 yet but it looks kind of annoying to me. But maybe I’d get used to it. It’s Microsoft’s first go at this, and I think there are going to be a lot of changes before things get finalized.

  21. Personally, I love Windows 8 than Windows 7. But sometimes, I hate it too, as I don’t have a touch screen laptop. Windows 8 is the best if one has a Touch Screen laptop. Cheers :)

  22. I agree with most comments here that Windows 7 is better than Windows 8, for now anyway. In my experience, not all softwares that I use are compatible with the Windows 8 OS yet but, since this is already the future and trend, I believe that these softwares will be developed for the new OS. Touch screens are also the future, and Windows 8 is bridging the gap from traditional monitors to touch screens. Eventually in the future when compatibility issues have been resolved, everyone saying that Windows 7 is better will love Windows 8.
